Holidays in the "Most beautiful village in Austria" mean clear air, lush meadows and breathtaking mountainscape. Its villagescape is unique in Europe. Alpbach is as unique as it is famous, as an international conference village; since 1945 the „Europäische Forum Alpbach“ has been taking place in summer, which each year attracts international personalities from the worlds of science, economics, politics and culture.
Alpbach is just a mountain village – but it is the most beautiful one in Austria. Whether it’s hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, playing tennis - or just relaxing and resting, you’ll enjoy these lovely natural surroundings. Alpbach is an idyllic place.
The village, which has 2500 inhabitants, is located at 1000 m altitude on a sunny plateau in Alpbachtal and has genuinely “received an award“, since in 1983 Alpbach was chosen as the “Most beautiful village in Austria” thanks to it the unique style of its buildings and splendid flowers. In 1993 the mountain village received the title "Most beautiful flowered village in Europe" at the European competition for decorative flowers.
In Alpbach this need for harmony, seclusion, beauty and cultural identity was and is very much in evidence. Since 1953 the people of Alpbach have only built in the customary Alpbach building style, harmonious indeed.
