You can feel the proud past in the Böglerhof in every nook and cranny. From the silver mining era to Andreas Hofer and the Duftner family.
Hidden in the name ‘Bögler’ is a bow maker, who once has his workshop here. From the 15th century the hotel was a meal for miners and belonged to the Fugger family empire. The wine cellar and the ‚Fuggerstube’ are from this era. That was the silver era in Alpbachtal – however when cheap silver was imported from the New World, the miners moved away; the poor mountain farmers stayed and the "Bögler" became an inn.
In 1809 history – in the Tirol struggle for freedom against Bavaria and the French under Andreas Hofer – came knocking again. Today in the Böglerhof a letter from Sandwirt’s Hofer is carefully treasured, which Andreas Hofer had addressed to Mr „Pögler“ in Alpbach, in which he requested the Alpbach people to join in the battle. After the tragic end of the rebellion the chronicle describes only local events and the eternally similar stations of agricultural lives: births, christenings, weddings, gravestones, good harvests and bad ... until 1933 when the young and committed wine merchant Alfons Moser purchased the Böglerwirt at auction. With that the success story began, which continued with the Duftner family and has lasted until today.
Famous guests. Before you, the Fugger miners in the 15th century, the national hero of Tirol Andreas Hofer in 1809, and the famous American writer Thomas Wolfe in 1936, found friendship, help and comfort in the Böglerhof.
