Hiking tours

pleasure moments in the Tyrolean mountains during a holiday in Austria

Several times a week, our certified hiking guide Andreas invites all hiking enthusiasts among our guests to join guided hiking tours into the picturesque world of the Kitzbühel Alps. You will discover hidden places and traditional huts and enjoy unforgettable views during your active holiday. The guided hikes are easy to medium-difficult, and as a special extra all participants receive a healthy snack package and many beautiful souvenir photos.

Another natural jewel in the heart of Tyrol is the Wildschönau, about three quarters of an hour's drive from Alpach, where many beautiful walks and summer landscape experiences can be enjoyed.

The Wiedersbergerhornbahn in Alpbach and the Reitherkogelbahn in Reith bring you quickly and effortlessly closer to the summit. This means that nothing is in the way of unlimited hiking possibilities. For all guests with the Alpbachtal Card, the use of the summer mountain railways is free of charge.

Popular hike on Alpbach's local mountain

Duration: approx. 5 hours
Difficulty: middle
Altitude: 1899 m

Trail charakter:

From the hotel, walk in the direction of the Congress-Centrum. The way to our starting point continues in a somewhat longer stretch (approx. 500 m) through the village centre, always in an easterly direction. As a further point of orientation, you will walk up the Blaiksteig to the starting point. The second stage takes you along a wide road (driving ban) via the "Marienweg" (No.A20) to the Hösljoch chapel. In about 30 minutes you reach the Hösljochkapelle, where you will be accompanied by various stations of the cross. At Hösljoch we turn north and climb slowly and comfortably higher. Again and again there are views who invite you to make a stop. In order to escape the higher rising sun and increasing heat, the last stage of our hike takes us in steady left and right loops towards the summit. At the summit a bench invites you to sit down and a wreath of peaks with such important names as Schatzberg, Großer Galtenberg and Wiedersberger Horn opens up in front of you. The ridge path (hence the name!) requires two ascents and subsequent descents:

Coming down there are two possibilities:

  • descent towards the Holzalm (path no. 10 or B28) and back to the starting point.
about 1 hour and 45 minutes
  • descent via Hauserjoch in the direction of Bischoferalm (path no. A18) back to Alpbach.
about 1 hour and 30 minutes

The Steinbergalm is famous for their home made cheese!

Duration: approximately 1:30 hours
Difficulty: middle
Altitude: 1710 m

Trail charakter:

With your car you drive to Inneralpbach to the Wiedersbergerhorn car park. From there the hike starts. Turn left into the so-called Luegergraben. Pass fir trees and woods until you reach a large wooden bridge, where you turn right. Follow the path straight on until you reach a gravel road. From there you also follow this gravel road. Along the stream and past the Kühtaialm. From now on the path is always a little bit uphill, but it is easy to manage. After about an hour's walk you will reach the Faulbaumgartenalm. There you have already earned yourself a hearty snack. At this rustic hut you can really collect energy in the sun. Afterwards, you can walk along a wonderful alpine path to the Steinbergalm, where you will be well strengthened. The Steinbergalm is famous for its homemade mountain cheese, which you can also taste on the spot.

Enjoy a nice view over Kramsach, Rattenberg, Rofan and Wilder Kaiser

Duration: approx. 4 hours
Difficulty: middle

Trail charakter:

From the car park at Lipperheide Castle (entrance to Matzenpark) through Matzenpark, one of the most beautiful and valuable cultural landscapes in Tyrol. After the nymphaeum keep right and walk towards Percha/Mühlbichl. At the Mühlbichl district, walk slightly downhill and cross the state road, continuing towards the Mehrn district. Follow the path towards Burg Lanegg and then to the school. Continue in the direction of Mehrnsteinweg until you reach Mariahilfbergl. From here begins a narrow forest path with a gradient, which should only be taken if you are free from giddiness. In between there are great views of Kramsach, Rattenberg, Rofan and Wilder Kaiser. At the Stadtbergkapelle (forest chapel) either down the forest road to Rattenberg or alternatively: Left at the Stadtbergkapelle (forest chapel) down the Way of the Cross to Rattenberg - after about 500 m a narrow Way of the Cross leads off to the upper castle ruins on the left. After approx. 2 min. you can get a great overview of the old walls of the upper castle ruins. Attention! Be sure to take the same route back to the Way of the Cross, as the narrow descent from the castle ruins to Rattenberg is steep and dangerous (not supervised!).
After a walk through the historic pedestrian zone of Rattenberg with its numerous glass art shops, take a leisurely walk along the Inn cycle path towards Innsbruck. After the Montanwerke Brixlegg, walk another 300 m to the rest area on the Inn, then turn left and walk slightly uphill to the Weng district. Walk through the settlement to the B171 main road, cross it and walk along the Parkallee on the other side at the Matzenpark entrance gate. Past the tennis court and playground to Matzen Estate. Walk through the garden (nice place to stop for a bite to eat with an enchanting garden and a view of Matzen Castle) and past the carp and lion pond to the car park at Lipperheide Castle.
Option: walk from Lipperheide Castle in the direction of the Innweg and then visit Lichtwerth Castle and the ruins of Kropfsberg Castle near St. Gertraudi (cannot be visited from inside).
The path can of course also be walked in reverse order from Rattenberg.

Highlight: the breathtaking view on the top of the Tiefenbach gorge

From June to September you can also take the bus from Brixlegg railway station or Kramsach town hall. Buses run from Monday to Friday. You can find the exact times of the bus at the reception. The hike leads along the Brandenberger Ache through an impressive natural landscape, which is shaped by the roaring water. After about 1 hour we reach the snack station Tiefenbachklamm, where you are welcome to stop for a snack or a short coffee.
You can either hike back through the gorge or make an ascent to Brandenberg. Highlight: the breathtaking viewing platform at the highest point of the gorge!

The Farmkehralpe is very famous restaurant for it’s big escalope

From there the hike begins to the right over the wooden bridge. Continue straight ahead along the Greitbach stream. A gravel road starts at the former Gasthof Leitner and you continue straight ahead. You will pass the Greiteralm, where you can already see your destination, the Farmkehralm. After only a few more kilometres you reach the Farmkehr Alpe (Niederleger). The Farmkehralpe is famous for its large, super tasty Wiener Schnitzel, which you can enjoy on the wonderful sun terrace when the weather is fine.

Enjoy an amazing view on the wonderful Mountain surrounding

Duration: approx. 5 Stunden
Difficulty: difficult
Altitude: 2127m

Trail charakter:

With the gondola lift you float gently and quietly almost 1000 metres above alpine and forest floor below us towards the top station. Once at the top, you will be amazed at the overwhelming view of the mountain scenery surrounding us, which begins in the south with the ice-covered peaks of the Zillertal Alps and the Hohe Tauern and ends with the jagged peaks of the Karwendel and Rofan mountains above the Inn valley. The Sagtal peak, which at 2241 metres is the highest point of our tour, rises above the Greiter Graben. Instead of crossing the Wiedersberger Horn on the valley side over a wide, gentle alpine path in a south-easterly direction, you climb a stony, bumpy path towards the summit at 2127m. Duration: 30 minutes. Up to this point, you have followed the path with the No. A 40.
After a rest on the summit and a photo, you take the path with the no. A 41, which takes you to the summit of the Sagtaler Spitze in about 2 hours. The Sagtaler Spitze is actually one of several peaks in the mountain range that stretches between the Großer Galtenberg and the Wiedersberger Horn.
Attention: from here on only with alpine experience, assessment of alpine sources of danger necessary. One of these peaks, which is actually a head, is called Gamskopf and rises with 2205 metres of altitude above the Märzengrund, which is located in the Zillertal. The following 1.5 hour long crossing on the south side over to Gamskopf requires a good head for heights and a good step for step. Climbing aids such as steel rope and foot stirrups make the ascent and descent easier. A marking visible from afar shows you the way. From the summit down to the so-called Krinnjoch (altitude: 1990m), the easy path leads you to the No. A 42. Jöcher have it in themselves that they connect valleys; in our case the Greiter Graben with the Märzengrund. Descending to the right from this vertex, you will see our next starting point.
After 45 minutes, the Farmkehralm (Niederleger) is our last refreshment opportunity before we start the long hike down the valley towards Inneralpbach. After a further hour you will arrive at Inneralpbach and congratulate yourself on a successful mountain tour.

Impressive view at the Wiedersberger Horn

Duration: approx. 2 hours
Difficulty: easy
Altitude: 1850m

Trail Charakter:

This path rightly bears his name. It leads around the Wiedersbergerhorn and offers a magnificent view over the Alpbach Valley, Zillertal and Inn Valley, from the rugged Karwendl to the glaciers on the main Alpine ridge. From the car park you take the Wiedersbergerhorn cable car to the top station. From there, turn left and you will reach the Panoramaweg (No. A 40). Here you have a fantastic view of the surrounding valleys. The trail leads around the Wiedersbergerhorn, where you will return to the top station at the end.

After this great hike you deserve a refreshment at the Dauersteiner Hut. Tip: A detour to the summit of the Wiedersbergerhorn (2127 m) is definitely worthwhile! A view of the Alpbachtal, Zillertal, Inntal and other peaks is tempting. The summit is easily accessible (also for children), about one hour from the cable car station.

Coloured signs, dolls museum and children's zoo will pass your way

Duration: approx. 3 hours
Difficulty: middle

From the Reintalersee Ost car park you walk the path to Berglsteiner See.
Along the way, colourful information boards invite you to take part in kinesiological movement and concentration exercises that support balance, promote coordination and alertness. From the eastern side of the lake, continue along trail no. 11 downhill a little until you reach the signposting Voldöpper Spitze (left). From here, follow the gravel road uphill to the sign Schindlerweg (right).
At the pumping station there is the possibility to visit a display farm, if you book in advance. Turn right again in the direction of Asperhof. There, the doll museum and the petting zoo with snack station invite you to rest.

The way back is via trail no. 11, which climbs up to the signposting to the left Kramsach-Moosen until you reach the car park.

"Oberer Höhenweg"

Duration: approx. 3 hours
Difficulty: moderately

Trial charakter:

Pass the Wellnesshotel Böglerhof and Congress Centrum Alpbach on the road to the hamlet village. After about 20 minutes you reach a fork in the road where you turn right. Cross the bridge and follow the road to Gasthof Rossmoos.
From there, you can continue on to the Wurmhof snack station as you please. Pass above the snack station Wurmhof to the farm "Tal". Over the valley ditch to Inneralpbach. After about half an hour's walk you will pass a chapel. Turning right over the bridge, the path leads out of the valley towards Inneralpbach. After 2 km you reach the Gasthaus Wiedersbergerhorn. Approximately 50 m before this, turn right over the footbridge to the middle path. This leads over the Weikart Graben and past the Stettauer Mühle.
If you keep going straight on, you will reach the centre of Alpbach again after about half an hour. You can also take the bus from Inneralpbach back to Alpbach. The bus stop is located at the Hotel Wiedersbergerhorn.

Hiking with a view!

Duration: approx. 7 hours
Difficulty: difficult
Altitude: 2224m

Trail charakter:

The Sonnwendjoch is the south-easternmost spur of the Rofan Mountains with an altitude of 2,224 metres. Due to its exposed position, you can enjoy an excellent view from the summit over the Lower Inn Valley, the Zillertal and Kitzbühler Alps to the Stubaier Alps.
Ascent to just below the Rosskogel, then over alpine meadows to the Zireiner See (follow the signs to Zireiner See). From the western end of the lake, the path leads partly quite steeply along the Schafsteig (via ferrata) to the prominent ridge between Rofanspitze and Sagzahn. Now follows a short but difficult ascent through the chimney (via ferrata) to Sagzahn 2,228 m. (This part can also be bypassed, but you will have to allow about 3/4 hour more for this). From the Sagzahn, you can now reach the Vorderen Sonnwendjoch 2,224 m without difficulty and quite comfortably (until here about 3.5 hours from the top station). Now the path only leads downhill to the Bayreuther Hütte or Bergalm.
Attention: Do not underestimate this descent, as it is about 1,650 hm (approx. 3.5 - 4 hours). All in all, a challenging alpine tour day awaits you.

Place of retreat

Duration: approx. 20 minutes
Difficulty: easy

Trail charakter:

The Böglerhof Chapel is located in the garden between our hotel and the Congress Centrum Alpbach, only a few metres walk from the Böglerhof. Opened in 2014, it serves above all as a source of strength for guests looking for a quiet retreat. The chapel is open from 9.00 to 21.00 hours for anyone who is looking for inner peace instead of a physical challenge. The sculpture path connects the chapel with the reading hut...places of contemplation and rest.... and who knows, maybe you will find revelation right here in the form of the next hiking destination.

Outdoor Action

outdoor activities at your holiday in the mountains

Stretch - aim - shoot. Archery at Sport Ossi in Kramsach does not focus on competition, but rather on exercise in the fresh air and experiencing the interplay of tension and relaxation.

Kayaking is probably the most elegant way to play with white water. You will learn the necessary technique as well as the correct behaviour in white water in the beginner and advanced courses of Sport Ossi.

The expedition to lofty heights requires self-confidence, coordination and courage. Whether you tackle the Eagle, Mammoth or Flying Fox tour in Kramsach is entirely up to you.

The racy, one and a half kilometre long ride with painted tubes on one of the last unspoilt white waters in Tyrol - the Brandenberger Ache brings lots of fun and action. The sportive development of rafting is an adventure for the whole family.

The all year-round Alpine Coaster, which goes by the name of Alpbachtaler Lauser-Sauser, is a fantastic highlight of a family holiday in Tyrol. This "wilderness rollercoaster" in Lauserland on the Wiedersberger Horn offers a spectacular downhill ride at 1,035 metres with a 134-metre difference in altitude.

Cool tips for hot days

swimming lake Reither See & further highlights for families

In addition to the already mentioned destinations for summer holidays in Austria with children, the Reither See, which is located directly in the centre of Reith im Alpbachtal, is certainly a cool tip for hot days. The bathing lake, which is blessed with an average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius in summer, is a small outdoor oasis for families and all others who like it to be manageable and well maintained: Sanitary facilities, sunbathing lawns, children's areas - everything top.

For summer family holidays, the Juppi Zauberwald, a circular hiking trail suitable for prams with play stations, which starts at the top station of the Reitherkogel lift, and the Lauserland children's playground on the Wiedersbergerhorn, an adventure forest playground at 1,850 metres above sea level. Good to know: The KidsCenter on the Wiedersberger Horn offers competent and creative childcare!
